Dubbed as the "Pamela Anderson of India," Namitha is a plus-size Indian model turned film actress known for her works in the South Indian film industry. She went on to participate in the 2001 Miss India pageant and ended up as the fourth runner-up, while Celina Jaitley was crowned Miss India.

Her success in the pageant has opened up doors for her in a number of TV commercials like Himani cream & hand soap, Arun Ice Cream, Manikchand Gutka and Nile herbal shampoo. She has been an advocate of safe driving together with Tamil actor Bharat.
Namitha made her acting debut in the Telugu film "Sontham," directed by Sreenu Vaitla. She then starred in the Tamil film "Aai." In 2006, she made her Bollywood debut in "Love Ke Chakkar Mein." 

In October 26, 2010, there was an attempt to kidnap her by a fan at Trichy in Tamil Nadu.
