Born as Amit Kulilay, A-Mei is a controversial Taiwanese singer of Puyuma aboriginal descent who became a diva of the Mandarin pop music scene and the "Pride of Taiwan."

In addition to singing, is also a skilled guitarist and drumer. Her career in Chinese entertainment industry as a professional singer started in 1994. At that time, A-Mei has just won a national singing contest in Taiwan and with that success, she receive many offers from various music production houses. Her second album titled "Bad Boy" also holds a record as the second best-selling album in the history of Taiwan music industry.

She was also banned from performing in the Mainland and in Singapore due to her political and social activism with regards to Taiwan's independence and gay rights.
